When you think of April, what comes to mind?
Maybe it’s: April showers bring May flowers.
Or, April is for fools.
And, I believe T.S. Elliot said, “April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.”
It may, indeed, be all of those things, but in Dallas it means it’s time for art! As an art enthusiast, this is truly one of the most exciting times of the year in my beloved city. With the start of the Dallas Art Fair (http://www.dallasartfair.com) this week to the Art Ball – the Dallas Museum of Art’s premier fundraising event – later this month, Dallas is jam-packed with the very best of the art world. Artists, gallerists, patrons and collectors (both serious and casual) flock to Texas for a whirlwind of exhibitions, talks, parties and more.
As a contemporary collector, it’s a feast for the senses! This year, in particular, I’m looking forward to the Steven Parrino exhibition at The Power Station, the Art Fair’s Preview Gala, the Juergen Teller book signing at Forty Five Ten (on Friday), and of course, The Eye Ball – the always outrageous and oh-so-fun party hosted by the Joule Hotel.
But, what if art isn’t your thing? If that’s the case, I challenge you to think about what art means to you. In my mind, it can be so many things – architecture, design, fashion. You name it! I can see the artistry in just about anything. There’s nothing more awe-inspiring to me than the lines on a Maison Rabih Kayrouz dress, or the technique used in making Saint Louis crystal.
Art is everywhere! And, it’s here for you to enjoy. Happy April.
