It’s (finally) officially fall, and I couldn’t be more excited. The social season is in full swing, Fashion Weeks are over (whew!), college football is a Saturday staple, leaves are turning, and – most importantly – the weather is finally beginning to cooperate with our fall wardrobes.
It’s my favorite season! I love the cooler days and the crispness that will soon be in the air (keep faith, my Texas friends, it’s coming). I love sweaters. I love snuggling up by a fire with friends and a glass of wine. And, let’s not forget Halloween and Thanksgiving will be here soon. And, the State Fair is always a must. There’s so much to celebrate and experience. But, from time to time there’s so much happening, it’s hard to actually enjoy it all.
This month, I’m making a vow to myself. I’m going to be grateful for the insane amount of social engagements on my calendar, the shorter days, and the overall franticness of the season.
I can recall one particular October a few years ago, when we had 4 black tie events in the course of 10 days. It felt like a chore. I was more wrapped up in what I was going to wear and an endless rotation of hair and makeup appointments, than I was in the actual events (which were in reality pretty cool). I should have felt joy that I was included in these extraordinary occasions, instead of suffering from exhaustion before I even got there.
Not this year. I’m going to enjoy myself. I’m going to take pleasure in it. I’m soaking it in. Of course, I’ll still obsess over gowns and jewelry, and all the girly stuff. I can’t help myself, there. But, I’m also going to enjoy. And exhale. And, maybe even throw on a sweater.
Happy fall, y’all!
