Welcome to June!
We made it! I feel like there should be a marching band playing and fireworks booming to celebrate. We survived the jam-packed May social season, school is out, and now it’s time for summer fun! Let me assure you, no one is more excited about this than me.
As I mentioned in my last letter, summer – if we spend it as it’s intended – has a beautiful purpose. As author Deb Caletti says in Honey, Baby, Sweetheart:
“Summer, after all, is a time when wonderful things can happen to quiet people. For those few months, you’re not required to be who everyone thinks you are, and that cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end of a pool give you a courage you don’t have the rest of the year. You can be grateful and easy, with no eyes on you, and no past. Summer just opens the door and lets you out.”
After the hectic spring months, I am so ready to open the door and to enjoy all those wondrous things.
So, let’s use this time to take it easy. Disconnect a little. Slow down. Recharge our mental and physical batteries. Have long dinners with our family and friends, instead of a hurried “what can we cram in our mouths that’s not too unhealthy” moment. Lazily lounge in the pool. Go catch those fireflies, and roast marshmallows.
Let’s live easy and grateful. It will pass by us all too soon.
